The RM of Amstrong just passed its tax bylaw. Reeve Jack Cruise outlines the changes.

"It passed our first reading of our tax bylaw at the April meeting. And then we had a public meeting in the latter part of April. We passed our second and third readings at the May meeting. Basically it's a reduction in our mill rate, but this year was an assessment year. So, our assessment had went up enough, and we lowered our mill rate in accordance with that."

Cruise explains the resulting variation.

"I guess some people will be getting an increase in taxes, and some people will be getting a reduction, just depending on what happened with their assessments. We're collecting 3% more money this year than we collected last year. But that's due to an increase in our overall assessments."
