Despite having been open for less than a year, the new arena in the town of Lundar has already seen plenty of action. Over the past few months it has welcomed plenty of figure skaters, hockey players, a carnival and this past weekend it was the entertainment venue for the Lundar Agricultural Fair.

Grettir Recreation Committee President, Grant Sigfusson, says people have really been embracing the new arena.

"Everybody's happy about it. It provides a lot of other opportunities for our community," says Sigfusson, explaining more people have been coming out to the new facility for hockey games. "It's just the comfort; people are coming out to watch more hockey and they are amazed with how warm it is in here and with the seating, which we got from the Bombers."

He notes the walking track in the arena has also been really popular.

"I know a lot of people were wanting to keep using it after the ice went out, but we have to get some other things organized before we open it up again," explains Sigfusson, adding they are still getting the first year under their belt.

Kristina Johnson is an assistant coach with Lakeside Minor Hockey. She says the new arena is amazing, noting the fact that it is in her hometown is still somewhat surreal. She explains while the old arena held plenty of fond memories, it's really nice to have a place where the kids can play that isn't so cold.

"It's given us the opportunity for the kids to skate in a warmer facility, as well as for the parents and grandparents of the kids to utilize the walking track during practices and games," says Johnson. "That's been another huge bonus for our arena and for the people of the community."
