Sports leagues have been busy as of late and arenas and curling rinks have been buzzing with activity. 

In the Tiger Hills Hockey League the Gladstone Lakers had a productive weekend beating the MacGregor Wild 4-2 on home ice Saturday. They followed that up with a 3-2 overtime win in Neepawa on Sunday against the East Division leading Farmers. Johnny Beaulieu was the overtime scoring just over a minute into the extra frame. At 6-1-1 Gladstone is one point behind Neepawa and tied with Minnedosa. MacGregor is one point back of them at 5-2-2. At 9-0, Bossevain is the leader in the West Division.

In the SEMHL, the Portage Islanders travelled to Warren on Saturday where they dropped a hard fought 6-5 game in overtime. The Islanders fell behind 5-1 before scoring 4 goals in less than 5 minutes midway through the third. Brock Couch of the Mercs ruined the comeback by scoring 21 seconds into the extra frame. Jens Meilleur is leading the way for the Islanders this season with 16 points in just 7 games. Carman, Warren and Portage are all tied for top spot in the league however the Beavers have played on less game.

It was a rare weekend game for the Portage Collegiate Trojans in the Zone Four High School Hockey League. The Trojans beat the Mountain Mustangs 4-1 on home ice Saturday. Ashton Hlady led the way with two goals and Rowan Cherkas got the win in net. With 33 points in just 11 games Alex Van Deynze is the Trojans leading scorer and sits second for the entire league. With a 9-2 record the Trojans are two points out of first but they do have three games in hand on the WC Miller Aces who lead the way.

In Curling action, Alberta won the Canadian Senior Men's Curling Championships in Ontario going undefeated at the event. Team Manitoba skipped by Randy Neufeld also features Dean Moxham of Oakville and Dale Michie of Portage. They missed out on the championship round but went a very respectable 5-4 at the event. The Manitoba Scotties start Wednesday in Carberry.

Nineteen teams took part in the Portage Soft Tip Darts associations annual tournament. Portager's Gary Woods, Jamie Woods, Brian Taylor and Dean Cairns won the "A" event.
