The offence came alive for the Portage Terriers last night in MJHL action as they beat the Waywayseecappo Wolverines 8-2. The Wolverines got the better of Portage in their last meeting in Waywayseecappo and Portage wasn't going to let that happen again.

Jeremey Leipsic opened the scoring for Portage over halfway through the first when he finished off a nice feed from Mackenzie Dwyer. The Dogs would score again 28 seconds later when Josh Martin took a pass from the corner and beat Hunter Lorenson on the power play.

Portages own Cody Durdle, playing for the opposition, would find the back of the net early in the second period with the man advantage. This is as close as the Wolverines would get as Portage started to open up.

Ryan Hendrix scored the third Terrier goal as his shot bounced off the glass behind the net and off of the back of Lorenson and in. Ryan Sokoloski made a nifty move between his legs a minute and a half later to make it 4-1. The Terriers would get one more in the second off a solid individual effort by Ty Barnstable.

The third period was an exact replica of the second. An early power play goal for the Wolverines and then three straight for Portage. Playing against his former team, Brandon Stanley scored for Waywayseecappo less than a minute into the frame. The Terriers responded with goals from Turner Santin, Dwyer, and Leipsic. The game started to turn physical as the play winded down and Santin and Jacob Bestul were kicked out for fighting.

Kurtis Chapman picked up the win in net, making 23 saves. The Terriers are now two points back of OCN and Selkirk in the standings who are tied for third. Portage is right back in action Friday night in Neepawa against the Natives. The game starts at 7:30pm and will be broadcast on CFRY with the pregame show starting at 7:20pm.
