The Portage Terriers’ offence exploded last night as they beat the Neepawa Natives 5-2. The line of Kolton Shindle, Reece Henry and Mack Belinski was red hot contributing four of the five Terrier goals.

The Terriers started off with a bang notching two goals in the first five minutes. Reece Henry brought the puck in front of the net and lifted a backhand through former Terrier Ethan Peterson. His line stayed on the ice and scored again. Shindle banked a sharp angle shot off of Peterson and into the net. Portage got into some penalty trouble at the end of the period but remained up 2-0.

The Dogs started hot again in the second. They drew an early penalty and Belinski struck with the man advantage. He tipped Shindle’s shot over Peterson’s outstretched pad. Eight minutes later the Terriers increased their lead to four. Lane Taylor fired a wrist shot just inside the post off the rush for his second of the season. Peterson’s night would be done as he got pulled in favour of Dawson Green. Jackson Tait looked to fire up his team late in the period by dropping the gloves with Corbin Mariash. Tait drew an extra instigator penalty which Neepawa was able to capitalize on. Parker Malchuk had a point shot get through traffic and beat Nathan Moore. The play started to open up and the Terriers continued to pour on the pressure.

Portage worked hard to score first again in the third. Kolton Shindle scored his second of the night eight seconds into a power play. Neepawa would get another power-play goal but it would be too little too late. Moore picked up the win in net for Portage.

The Terriers’ four-game losing streak comes to an end as they move back into a tie for first place with Waywayseecappo. Portage is back in action this Saturday at home against the Swan Valley Stampeders.
