It took 65 minutes and 8 shooters for the Steinbach Pistons to beat the Portage Terriers last night 4-3. It was just the third extra time loss for Portage this season. The Dogs pick up 3 out of a possible 4 points against the second place Steinbach Pistons on the weekend.

Steinbach jumped out of the gate in the first period with Mattieu Gomercic sniping one blocker side. Ian Mackey would find a loose puck in the slot a few minutes later and would score his first as a Terrier.

It would remain tied at 1 heading into the second period when Brandon Stanley finished off a 3 on 1 with a pretty deke. The Terriers would get the man advantage a few minutes later and Riley Thiessen would capitalize with the point shot. It was also his first with the Terriers.

Portage played well to start the third period but got into some penalty trouble opening the door for the Pistons. Steinbach notched one at even strength and then late in the period to force overtime. In the extra frame no one could find the back of the net, forcing a shootout.

Robert Briem scored first for Steinbach in the shootout, and Braydon Macdonald scored as the second shooter for Portage. It took the 8th Steinbach shooter, Jordan Bochinski, to finally break the tie and win the game. Nathan Park made 39 saves in the loss, not counting the shoot out.

The Terriers are back in action Tuesday in Selkirk. The game will be broadcast on CFRY and portageonline.com starting with the pre game show at 7.20pm.
