The PCI Saints are heading to the semi finals in the Winnipeg Women's High School Hockey League Playoffs after a 3-0 win over Vincent Massey in Winnipeg today.

After a scoreless 1st period, PCI came out hard in the 2nd. Maddie Shwaluk opened the scoring for the Saints on the powerplay, with the assists going to Paige Shwaluk and Bailey Grantham. The Saints were unable to score anymore goals in the frame, but played strong defensively and took the 1-0 lead into the 3rd period.

In the 3rd period, Paige Shwaluk picked up her second point of the night with a goal, off of a feed from Morgan Miller, to put the Saints up by 2. The Saints were able to kill off a few penalties in the period and with 1:11 remaining in the game and the Vincent Massey net empty, Bailey Grantham got the puck to Sarah Thomson who scored to secure the 3-0 win for Portage. Haeley Swidnicki stopped all of the 19 shots she faced in the game to give the Saints a 2-1 series win.

Saints' Head Coach Jo-Anne Clarke-Gillespie says it was a really good game for the team.

"It was really good. We played a very solid team game, we adjusted a little bit to their 5-on-5 attack in our own zone and it worked well. We played really disciplined...we did take 6 penalties to their 4, but we killed all of them off. We played a very team game, very structured and played a lot smarter than they did."

She comments on the upcoming semi final series against CJS.

"We expect to just keep playing the way we are right now, these last few games we've played very, very well. We've played CJS twice in the regular season and we lost by 1 goal in both games, so we know that we can play with them. If we keep playing like this, with our team game and everybody going, we should be able to continue rolling here."
