Graham Leiding scored the eventual game winner as the defending South Eastern Manitoba Hockey League Champion Morden Redskins doubled the Carman Beavers 4-2 last night.

"I just saw (Keith) Bially with it in the corner," explained Leiding. "I just tried to get a stick in the lane to grab it, and luckily made a move around the defencemen and was able to tuck it in."

The home town Beavers scored the games first goal as Aaron Lewadniuk banged home a rebound for his league leading 18th point of the post-season.

In the middle frame the Redskins would even the score at one, with Clint Olson's eighth of the playoffs. Scott Owen put home a rebound, and restored the Beavers one goal lead. Minutes later Morden's Tyler Groening was able to tie the game at two, once again off of a rebound.

"Lots of goals from in tight. It was a tight checking game, and we have to play a little better defensively, and cover our guys behind us," said Beavers captain Stuart Thiessen. "We had a couple of guys sneak in there and whack in a couple. We have to make sure we do a good job of that against these guys."

Leiding would get the Redskins first and only lead they would need, as he made a move around the Carman defender, and put one past Beavers net-minder Steve Christie, who made 27 saves in the losing effort.

Ryan Funk would add an insurance marker in the third period on the power-play to seal the deal for Morden.

Reed Peters turned aside 43 shots in the win for the Redskins.

This was the first game in the best-of-seven championship series, and the Redskins now lead the series 1-0 with the win.

Game two of this series goes tomorrow night in Morden at 8:00.
