Portage Terriers' defenceman Dean Stewart's on his way back from Surrey, BC, where he participated in the CJHL's Prospects game. Canada East defeated Stewart and Canada West 3-1.

Stewart says it was great to play with and against some talented players, and in front of some professional team scouts. At the same time, he stresses he tried not to think about the scouts while he was on the ice.

"You try to focus on playing your own game, and try not to worry about that stuff. It was definitely fun -- I got to play with some of the guys that I met on Team Canada West, and play against some of the guys on Team Canada East. I knew a few guys on both teams, and it made for a fun game."

Stewart talks about the balancing enjoying the experience of the game, while still trying to impress the pro scouts.

"You're there for a reason, and you've got to play to your strengths, and play to what got you there, and go through the same pre-game preparation. You've just got to try to treat it like it's any other game."

Stewart thinks his experience at the Prospects Game will have an impact on what he does with the Terriers.

"Playing with guys with so much skill, and some guys with a lot of experience as well, you learn a lot. Hopefully, I'll be able to bring a bit of it back to the Terriers."

Stewart adds he received feedback from some pro scouts after the game, noting they gave him some opinions on what he did well, and areas where he could improve.
