The Portage Judo club was represented in the first-ever Manitoba Open. Members of the club made the trip to Winnipeg for the tournament, which is the highest level of competition in the province. Head coach Brian Case was very pleased with the results.

"We've been able to place fighters, but the fact that we are now winning divisions, I think, is a great indicator of how our club is progressing."

Judo tournament in actionThis is the first National A ranked tournament held in Manitoba in the last few years. Case adds that the numbers they have sent to tournaments has been quite low but in the past few years they have spiked.

"I'm very excited about the numbers we sent. This tournament represented the last one in the competitive season for us. We have a core of older fighters and we've got a great group of young fighters who are very keen on the sport. So, I'm excited about the future of our club," he says.

This is the last tournament of this season for the fighters, but the success is something that will likely continue.
