The PMHA Peewee Tournament's on this weekend. Peter Fedak is president of the Portage Minor Hockey Association, and outlines the ages involved.

"The Peewees are typically 11 and 12 year olds, and it's for kids that are born in the year 2003-2004 for this year."

Fedak lists the teams involved.

Peter Fedak"We got our roster of 24 teams coming in. It's great. That's what we applied for at the beginning. Normally anything over 20 is a fantastic tournament, and you fill up both sheets of ice in that rink, and get going. So today they kick off right away here at 8:00 a.m. and 8:15 a.m. for the first two games of the tournament."

He notes the locations the teams are coming from.

"First of all we have our Portage teams. We have two Portage Peewee teams that are playing, and then we have our own Portage Pewee A team and our AA team are playing. So, we have four teams from Portage that are in on this, which is great for our local kids to get to play. We've also got teams coming in from Brandon, and Oxbow today. You'll get teams coming in from Winnipeg, whether it's Lorette and all around. So, it's a very popular tournament. I get a lot of great feedback from the people coming out here. A lot of the them really enjoy playing in the PCU Centre. We've got some passes for the Shindleman Aquatic Centre for them to use. There's a team deal on Terrier tickets for the game tomorrow night. It's a very attractive tournament to come to for the teams that the facility and everything else that the city itself has to offer them."

The tournament's closing up for their finals this Sunday.

"The finals are Sunday afternoon. And that will all be determined through the round robin play over today and tomorrow to find out who we're going to have in those finals. We've got some strong teams this year."

Fedak says it'll be quite easy to pop in and see one of our Portage teams during the tournament.

"The team that my son is on plays at 8:00 a.m. on the Portage Mutual side. Our Portage Peewee A teams plays at 8:15 a.m. on the PCU Centre side. So we got two teams going right away this morning. And then, I think it's 11:30 the Peewee AA team plays. We have more games tonight. My son has another game tonight at 6:45 p.m. So, for today and throughout the weekend, any time you go by the rink you probably won't be more than an hour away from watching one of our own PMHA teams playing."

Fedak adds, "We're just thankful for all the support with the town, and everybody who comes out to watch. You'll enjoy some great hockey at the PCU Centre. There's been great support for us from the Shindleman Aquatic Centre. I appreciate you guys for supporting us and giving the young guys some airtime as they go along. It's a real thrill for the kids to hear their name on the radio."
