The MacGregor Mustangs are the A/AA JV Girls MHSAA Provincial Volleyball Champions for the second straight year.

They took out Warren Collegiate in the final, after battling hard to get to the championship game in Shoal Lake. The Mustangs needed 3 sets to knock off Gilbert Plains in the quarterfinal, they won the 3rd set 15-7. They then took out Green Valley in 2 straight to advance to the final.

The Mustangs needed 3 sets to capture the crown, winning the deciding set 15-12. Grade 10 Mustang Amy Wiebe says it's just as sweet the second time around.

"It was amazing to win two years in a row. We all just worked together well, this group of girls just really knows what to do together."

She says Coach Kyle McKinstry played a huge role in keeping them composed and in the game.

"After we'd get down a few points our coach would call a time-out and get us all to calm down, then we just do what we had to do. Nice passes, nice sets, and just hit the ball over."

Fellow Grade 10 Madisson Donald says they've been together for a while now and it shows.

"You just know how each other work. The setter knows where you need the ball to be. We know where each other are on the court and our minds just sort of think alike."

MacGregor's varsity girls go for provincial glory this week. Their tournament starts Thursday.

PCI's Saints were both eliminated from their AAAA Provincial Tournaments in Winnipeg over the weekend. The JV Saints fell to College Jeanne Sauve in the quarterfinal Saturday. The varsity Saints lost to St. Mary's in their quarterfinal.

That ends PCI's provincial run.

Westpark's varsity boys enter their A Provincial Tournament Thursday.
