The Indoor Portage Cobras Soccer Club sent two teams to the SUSC Soccer tournament in Saskatoon last weekend. Both the U-14 and U-12 teams made the trip out, and the U-12 Cobras returned with gold medals.

"Both teams played very good and had a great weekend," says coach Chad Green. "We only had a few practices as teams before we left but the kids sure did not play like it. Our U-14 team was actually made up of all 13-year-olds except for one. So they were playing up an age basically. They were matched up against the three strongest teams at the tournament and came away with one win and two losses. The losses coming to the two teams who went to the finals. Our U12 team faired a lot bit better. They went undefeated only allowing one goal in four games. The final game was the toughest as they came up against a very strong Swift Current team. It was a tough game but our team came out on top with a 1-0 victory to win gold."

Green says he couldn't be happier with the teams' effort. "We went into the tournament with the game plan to develop our teams win or lose, play a certain style, and to show the players a different atmosphere than they have encountered before. Both teams played the style of soccer we wanted. We played a very good possession game and worked a lot on positioning and control of the ball. From the first game to the last game, we saw improvement."

He adds it was fantastic to watch them both play and to bond as clubs this weekend.
