The Central Plains Capitals lost 3-2 in overtime to the Yellowhead Chiefs last night in Manitoba Female Midget Hockey at the BDO Centre.

The Chiefs struck first 7 minutes into the game, which completely deflated the Capitals. Yellowhead was able to notch their second of the night with just 40 seconds to go in the first.

The Caps' laid-back performance continued through the second period, but they were lucky enough to escape the period without allowing another goal.

Central Plains finally managed to find their legs in the third, and were able to control most of the play, peppering the Chiefs' netminder with shots. Caps' forward Chelsea Hallson finally found the back of the net, with a beautiful top corner shot. The Capitals' continued pressure paid off, as Mekaela Fisher was able to capitalize on a tight breakaway to tie the game.

The Caps started overtime on a powerplay, and had several good looks, but were unable to score on the advantage. After Yellowhead killed their penalty they worked the puck down the ice -- and off a questionable scramble in front of the net -- were able to net the game winner.

Caps' goal scorer Chelsea Hallson gives her thoughts on their first two periods.

"I don't know, I guess we just got off to a bad start and didn't get the first goal. Our goal was to get out there and get the first goal and it probably brought us down a little bit. We weren't making good passes."

Hallson says her goal really got them going.

"I think after the goal we got fired up and we realized maybe we could get back in this game. Got a little jump in our step."

She adds it wasn't their best game, but still a confidence booster.

"I think we just have to move on. Take the 3rd period with us, and take that momentum. It shows we can beat any team in the league when we compete."

The Caps next game is Friday at the BDO Centre against Norman.
