The Central Plains Capitals fell 4-3 to Southwest in their final home game of the Manitoba AAA Midget Hockey League regular season.

The Capitals' Brody Moffat scored the first goal in the game halfway through the period off a pass from Austin Friesen. The Caps continued to play strong for the remainder of the period until, with just 1 second remaining in the period, Southwest scored to tie the game at 1 heading into the break.

In the 2nd period, both teams exchanged powerplay goals, with Drew Anderson picking up the Caps goal and the game was again tied going into the 3rd period.

Just 2 minutes into the final frame, Drew Anderson scored his second of the game on a beauty end-to-end rush and the Capitals took a 3-2 lead. Central Plains was only able to hold the lead for a few minutes when Southwest scored 2 goals under 2 minutes apart to regain the lead for the Cougars. The Capitals were unable to fight their way back and Southwest pick up the win.

Capitals' Coach Daniel Moar says despite the loss, the team played well.

"Our guys battled hard...they played a full 60 minutes. Southwest was battling hard trying to get into a playoff spot and they needed the 2 points. Southwest came out hard and they played a good game. They got a lucky bounce on the last goal, but I give a lot of credit to our guys. They played really hard and that's good to see going into playoffs."

The Caps have one game remaining before playoffs tomorrow afternoon against the Winnipeg Wild.
