The bats were on tonight for the PCI Trojans' Zone 4 Baseball home opener against Mennonite Collegiate at Rotary Republic Park. PCI took game 1 of the double header 14-4, and followed up with a 10-6 win in game 2.

Hitting didn't seem to be a problem for the Trojans right from the start of game 1. They scored 5 runs in the bottom of the first, and added another 7 in the bottom of the 4th, capped off by a 2 RBI double from Tyler Van Deynze. Trojans' pitcher Chance Dickenson gave up 4 runs on 3 hits on the mound to start game 1, Van Deynze finished the game without a hit on 37 pitches.

Van Deynze at the plate

Joey Moffat started on the mound for the Trojans in game 2, and gave up just 4 runs through 3 innings. PCI had another big inning at the plate in the top of the 3rd inning, scoring 5 runs to cap off their scoring. Jayson Brooks pitched the final two innings as well, giving up just 2 runs to seal the win.

Trojans' Head Coach jay Dewis gives his thoughts on their performance.

"Yeah, again I thought we swung the bat well. Got a lot of contributions, guys like Jared Roy and Tyler Van Deynze had big days for us. So we're happy with the two wins."

Grade 11 PCI Pitcher Jayson Brooks feels he could've been better.

"It was alright. I need to throw some more strikes for sure, but getting ahead of batters is pretty key. Early on I've struggled with that, but I think I've been doing better as the year goes on. Getting first pitch strikes, getting ahead of guys and working from there."

Joey Moffat

Pitcher Joey Moffat says, "I thought I fell behind some guys, but I came back and made some good fielding plays. Jared (Roy) made a diving play there at first, and we got the outs where we needed." Trojans' Grade 10 player Tyler Van Deynze talks about his performance at the plate.

"I've been going to the cages a lot. I started off the season rough, but it's a good comeback. Step back and take a few good swings."

The Trojans are back at it Wednesday when they host Morden.
