2015 was as close to a perfect year as you can get for the Portage Terriers.

The Terriers went 53-3-4 through the season -- setting a new MJHL record along the way -- and breezing by the competition in the playoffs going 12-0 to win the Turnbull Cup. Things didn't stop there for the Terriers as they finished in the top 2 at Westerns, and then came home to win the National Junior A Championship the RBC Cup. Terriers' Head Coach Blake Spiller discusses the dream season.

"Definitely went the way we had hoped it would. When you plan a couple of years for something, and then to have it all go the way that you hoped it would. To obviously win in your home facility, in front of all your fans, it was so exciting for everybody and our group. You couldn't ask for anything better."

The Terriers were recently nominated as Manitoba's team of the year for 2015. Spiller says it's a great thing to cap off an amazing year.

"As a group it was a great honour for our team to be nominated, and deservingly so. There were some individual awards as a result of the year that we had, and it's really nice -- and an honour -- to be nominated as a group. That involved everybody from the players to the staff, and everybody else that's involved with the Terriers."

The Terriers are currently first in the MJHL with a 30-6-1 record, a place not many people pegged the Terriers to be in, after losing so many players last season. Spiller talks about being able to keep the team's identity the same, with such a loss of personnel.

"I think that a big part is we're all familiar with each other as a staff. We haven't changed that much over the years that I've been involved. I think that really helps out and obviously getting back key guys from last year's club."

The Terriers are in action tonight as they host the Winkler Flyers at 4:30. You can catch the game on CFRY or portageonline.com.
