Teens needing a place to hang out have a break from a local non-profit.

Portage la Prairie's chapter of Youth for Christ: Youth Unlimited has recently resumed its high school drop-in program.

Kurt Friesen, ministry director at YFC, mentioned the reason the program was put on hiatus.

"We've had some staff changes, and when that happens, different programs kind of get dropped." Friesen went to explain, "There's a shuffle, and some of it is just, 'Hey, your passions are this, your passions are that,' so you go in that direction. It has been a bit of a challenge, for sure, to get those programs back up and running."

He shares that one of the reasons the program is able to run again is thanks to their volunteers.

Referring to the program, he said, "It's mostly volunteer-led, with some guidance from us, obviously, involved in it. We have a fantastic team of volunteers who are dedicated and willing to be patient. I think patience is key when you're starting something up again after being dormant for so long."

High school drop-in runs every Tuesday night from 7 to 9:30 p.m. For kids ages 10 to 14, junior drop-in is on Thursday afternoons from 3:30 to 5:30.
