Yellowquill School will be starting the school year with a new man steering the ship.

Darryl Patterson will be taking the reins, and while he's new to Yellowquill School, he has experience as a principal, spending the past two years with Oakville School. He explains his reasoning behind switching to Yellowquill.

"I wanted the challenge of a bigger school and working with an admin partner," explains Patterson. "Just to be a little closer to home to help out with family things as well, but Oakville was a great school and community. The staff, students, and community there are excellent."

He adds there was a lot of shifting in the admin positions throughout the PLPSD, which includes Erin Mauws becoming the newest vice-principal at the Yellowquill School.

The newly appointed principal leaves a message for students returning from summer break.

"I just want to welcome them and we're looking forward to a more normal school year start," says Patterson. "We'll have a lot of engaging activities for them to do and make sure you take part in the school, get involved, and meet new friends."

The school year for the PLPSD will begin on September 8th.
