Donations continue to be made to the Pettinger family, following Braden's unfortunate accident with the Portage Terriers a few weeks ago.

Winkler Minor Hockey and the Winkler Royals held a fundraiser at the Terriers-Flyers game Friday night, raising $500 dollars for the family from just Winkler Minor. Winkler Minor's Vice President Ed Penner says it all started when they were approached by the region's SEMHL team.

"We got approached by the Winkler Royals a few weeks ago about them wanting to host this event for Braden (Pettinger) here, and try to get the word out to get as many kids out as possible. So we decided as Exec. Members would come in and work the booth, and all proceeds and profits from the booth that night would go to help out the cause as well. And that's kind of how this all came to be."

Penner says everyone in the hockey community is reaching out to support the Pettinger family.

"I don't think it's our community in general, I think it's maybe a hockey community, or cultural. We play against each other, and you can play hard, but no one wants to see anyone get hurt. The end of the day most hockey players leave it on the ice, and everybody's a family. We all understand, we all care, and we don't want to see any of this happen to our kids, or any other kid, and we all feel for the family."

The Royals also teamed up to get Braden Pettinger a team signed Pittsburgh Penguins jersey, as Penguins' forward Eric Fehr is a Winkler native. Penner adds the Winkler Flyers plan to present the Portage Terriers with all the proceeds from their gate admission, as well as their half of the 50-50 to Braden at their next meeting in Winkler.
