A graduating Trojan will be continuing his football career in the BCFC this upcoming season.

Mason Wieringa committed to play with the Chilliwack Valley Huskers this year and signed to play fullback/linebacker as he did in his final season at PCI.

Wieringa says he was unsure as to whether or not he would have a chance to even play football after high school noting that was his goal. Now that he has reached that goal, he describes some new achievements he wants to hit going forward.

"Improve myself as a player and as a citizen in Canada," says Wieringa. "Some of my other goals are to, hopefully, improve myself to the point where I can take my football experience to the next level into University and possibly further than that. For right now, I'm just focusing on this year and getting myself to the point where I'm the best that I can be."

Wieringa posted 11 total tackles in seven games last season and added an interception as well. When it came to the offensive side of the ball, he ran for 211 yards on 33 attempts - 6.4 yards per carry - and punched in four touchdowns.

Wieringa talks about his most important asset on the football field.

"I think my versatility really helped me," says Wieringa. "My ability to go from one position to another and be able to change the way that I play to match the way my coach needs me to play. I'd be able to go from running back to a tight end within a play or two."

Wieringa says the most important thing he learned as a Trojan is to stay humble and respect yourself.

He will be joining his former Trojan teammates Ian McCutchin and Rory Pink in Chilliwack as they also will be playing for the Valley Huskers.
