Westbound traffic being diverted on Portage bypass due to semi fire

Last night at around 11:45 p.m. Portage fire crews were dispatched to the Portage Bypass (highway 1 west) because of a trailer fire on the road.

Two fire trucks were sent but unfortunately for the trailer, it was a total loss.

Fire crews reported that the driver was very observant and knew to disconnect the tractor unit from the trailer

Thankfully the crews worked fast, and no one was injured in the fire.

The semi is still smouldering this morning and westbound traffic at the Days Inn on the Portage bypass is being sent to the service road, causing minor delays in the area.
