The Westpark Royals Varsity Girls volleyball team put another win in the bag this evening as they beat Dufferin Christian 3-1. Shaun Cornish is the coach of the girls and says despite a change in the line-up they did a great job.

"The girls did pretty well," says Cornish. "We're missing one of our setters so a lot of the girls stepped up to take on that responsibility and did a great job."

Cornish explains they fell in the first set, but then took the win after winning the next 3 with a final score of 3-1 for the Royals.

"After the first set we got warmed up pretty good," says Cornish. "I think our serving improved. We're kind of an evenly matched team but our girls were a little more controlled this game."

Cornish says it feels good to take the win, and it gives him some confidence heading into the next few games. they have a tournament on Saturday, and tomorrow they take on Shevchenko for the first time this season, which will be coming to a close very soon.

"Getting close to the end of the season and it's been really fun," says Cornish. "A lot of the girls haven't played a lot of volleyball, or any volleyball. I've really enjoyed seeing them improve. It's been fun."

Westpark Royals varsity boys volleyball team also won last night. They got by Dufferin Christian 3-0. Coach Merle Friesen calls it a good outing.

"Dufferins's a young team," he says,"And they're learning volleyball, so I thought it went well over-all."

The Royals have an exhibition match today, versus Northlands Parkway. Friesen explains.

"I wanted an exhibition played into the playoffs, which start next week," he says, "I can do a game better than I can run a practice. So it's a chance to bruch up with a good quality team, good opponent, which will then hopefully be a good preparation for playoffs next week."

With last night's victory, the Royals clinch first place in the standings.
