Between December 3rd and December 12th police responded to 244 calls in the Central Plains Area. Here are some highlights!

December 3rd 

On December 3rd, 2018 at approximately 12:00 pm, Portage la Prairie RCMP along with Treherne and Manitou RCMP conducted a traffic stop on Highway 240 near Road 59 North. The vehicle was initially stopped in search of a suspect involved in a Break and Enter and a Theft in Manitou’s jurisdiction. The suspect was the passenger of the vehicle and was arrested on outstanding warrants and the investigations into the other incidences are continuing. The driver of the vehicle was not involved in criminal activity.  However, the driver was placed under arrest for obstruction for providing a false name and failing to comply with a recognizance in unrelated matters.  The driver was also issued several tickets with a total of $2391.00 

December 4th

Portage la Prairie RCMP arrived at a collision between two semi’s on Highway #1 near Road 59 West at 11:15 pm.  A westbound semi hauling two trailers on Highway #1 struck a semi that was traveling south on Road 59 West.  Emergency Services and the Macgregor Fire Department also attended.  The driver of the westbound semi was transported to the hospital.  The traffic disruption concluded at approximately 3:00 am on the 5th of December.

December 5th 

At approximately 1:30 am, RCMP pulled a vehicle over on Saskatchewan Avenue West near 20th Street to check the license, registration, and sobriety of the driver.  The officer could smell the odor of alcohol emanating from the 43-year-old male driver.  The driver was asked to provide a breath sample on a roadside screening device.  The driver refused to provide that sample and was arrested for refusal to provide a breath sample and impaired operation of a motor vehicle.  The driver's license was suspended and his vehicle towed and impounded.  The RCMP would like to remind people to have a plan to get home safe if you have consumed alcohol or cannabis. 

While patrolling Highway #50 near Road 117 North at approximately 2:15 pm, Amaranth RCMP observed a car travelling in excess of the 100kph posted speed limit.  A black Chevy sedan was being driven by a female in her thirties and was pulled over and issued a ticket for $613.00 for travelling 143kph. There have been multiple thefts of video surveillance cameras from the outside of various businesses and residences throughout Portage la Prairie recently.  On this day, two businesses had their cameras removed from their building.  People are asked to report any suspicious activities at night and if you have any information regarding these thefts or any other crime to please contact Crime Stoppers or your local police department.

December 7th

At 8:15 pm Portage la Prairie RCMP were dispatched to a call of shoplifting at a business on the west end of Portage.  Four people were arrested when officers arrived.  Two female in their thirties were arrested for shoplifting, one female in her thirties was arrested for shoplifting and two counts of failing to comply with conditions and a male in his twenties was arrested for shoplifting and two counts of failing to comply with conditions.  The value of the items attempted to be stolen was in excess of $3500.  Two of the females and the male were remanded into custody and one female released to appear in court at a later date.

December 9th

 Portage la Prairie RCMP were called at 2:25 am regarding a stolen vehicle from the 500 block of 10th Street NW.  The driver of the vehicle had started the car and left it running while they had gone inside to let the car warm up.  While the driver was inside, someone had come and stole the running vehicle.  RCMP are urging people not to start their vehicles and leave the keys in the running vehicle.
