The Warren Mercs have the opportunity to become provincial champions tonight.

The Mercs are taking on the Boissevain Border Kings for Hockey Manitoba’s Provincial Senior 'A' Championship. Warren won the SEMHL title a few weeks ago to qualify for this provincial tournament.

To get to the final, the Mercs defeated the Minnedosa Bombers in a two-game series, where the team with the most total goals over the six periods moved on. In the first outing, Warren came out on top 7-6, but fell 4-3 in the second game, leaving the series in a 10-10 tie. This meant an overtime period had to be played.

In the final frame of the series, it was Chase Faulker who took on the role of the hero for the Mercs after scoring a pair of goals in the first game.

Warren is now gearing up for a winner takes all match-up with Boissevain, who has yet to lose a game all season. The Tiger Hills Hockey League Champion comes into this one having gone 18-0-0 in their regular season, and winning all nine of their playoff games.

The one thing going the Mercs' way is the fact that the closest contest the Border Kings have played all year was a 7-7 tie, which happened in their most recent game in this tournament.

Warren and Boissevain will face off tonight at Tundra Oil & Gas Place in Virden.
