The Portage and District Labour Council is supportive of the province's latest revision within the construction industry.

New wage schedules were made effective this month.

President Daren Van Den Bussche believes the wage increases will help retain Manitoba's tradespeople, as Alberta attracts workers at what he calls an alarming rate.

But while Van Den Bussche agrees the new schedule boosts local economy, he's partially disappointed Winnipeg has a raise advantage.  Despite being close in proximity, Portage's increases will cap off at 90 per cent of what its neighbor is issuing.

Van Den Bussche adds the review was long overdue.
