Sunday is the 26th anniversary of the Montreal Massacre. Joyce Schrader, Executive Director of the Portage Family Abuse Prevention Centre, says while there will be no local vigil this year she hopes everyone will keep December 6th in mind and remember those who were murdered. Schrader notes the victims at Ecole Polytechnique were killed simply because they were bright women who wanted to be educated. She says people need to remember, because there's so much work yet to do to change attitudes and prevent this kind of thing from ever happening again.

Schrader adds here in Canada we are very proud of the fact that we are a democratic country which honours all people and which follows the Charter of Rights and Freedoms. She says we need to remind other people that those rights include the ability for women to live full lives according to their own wishes.
