UPDATE: The Santa Clara Baseball League has informed PortageOnline the game between the Portage Padres and Plumas Pirates will be declared a draw as it has no impact on standings.

The Santa Clara Baseball League postseason is set, but there is still one more regular season game to be played.

The Portage Padres are on the road to Plumas to battle the Pirates, one day after robbing them of their chance to win the pennant. The Pirates had to win yesterday and today, to pass the Carberry Royals for the top spot. The Padres won in Portage 10-5 yesterday, meaning the Royals win the pennant, and qualify for the AA Provincials at the end of the month.

Pitcher and shortstop for the Padres, Joey Moffatt, says it wasn't a meaningful game for them, so they found motivation by playing spoiler. Tonight, they'll focus on preparing for the postseason.

"That one, I think just trying to use it as a tune-up for Friday. That's when we're going to be playing Neepawa," says Moffatt. "You get your bats, get your swings in, and see the ball, and you use that for playoffs."

When asked about Plumas as a team, Moffatt was complimentary.

"They're a good team, you know. They're always good team. They got a lot of good young guys," says Moffatt. "Obviously, they didn't have (Zac) Yandeau tonight. He is one of their better players, which makes a difference. But, you know, they're deep squad. They got nine good guys every night, so we always have pretty good games against them."

Yandeau was the best hitter on the Pirates this season, hitting a league-leading five home runs, tied for the league-lead with 12 stolen bases, and was second in RBI with 23.

First pitch for tonight's game is 7 p.m. in Plumas.
