In just over a week (March 10), the 4th annual Women In Business Ungala evening happens at the Canad Inns in Portage la Prairie.

It's organized by the Chamber of Commerce, and Executive Director Cindy McDonald describes it as a growing tradition in Portage. She feels it because it's the only event in this area that celebrates International Women's Day.

"It's such great event because you get to network with other women, you get to be inspired, our speakers are very inspiring. There's no pressure to dress up, it's called the Ungala, because we say come as you are, come in whatever you're comfortable in, and just have fun."

McDonald's excited to hear guest speaker Lindy Norris, who she says will be very inspiring.

"She was named (one of) Marketing Magazine's 30 under-30 Brightest Young Minds in Canada. She was a Future Leader of Manitoba top-3 finalist. Her topic for her speech utilizes the Ungala, and she's called it the Un-label - evolving our approach to work, life, self, and others. She's talking about hot button words for women, such as should, could, fear, fail."

McDonald adds it's also a chance to recognize local women, through a couple of Woman of Excellence award presentations.

"So now we're giving out a Woman of Excellence, and we wanted to add the youth aspect to that as well, so we've added the Young Woman of Excellence Award. The two award recipients already know that they've won. Those award recipients get $250.00 to the charity of their choice. It just goes to show how many great women we have in this community, because last year we started with one award, and now we've got to two."

Tickets are $25.00, and are available at the Chamber office until Monday.
