The U18 A1 St. Eustache Jets are in the league finals.

The Jets followed up their impressive regular season with more of the same in the first portion of the playoffs as they went undefeated in the double-knockout elimination round. Head coach Randy Reimer says most of their players reside in the Central Plains area, with a plethora coming from Portage. He notes the season wasn't always looking this promising.

"We didn't really know what we were going to have for a team, we started out with about 15-16 kids but that ballooned to 23 kids," says Reimer. "We ended up with 20 kids overall. We usually had to sit one or two kids per game because it was a 19-man roster that they went with."

St. Eustache will be kicking off a best-of-five series tonight to crown the Hockey Winnipeg U18 A1 Champions. All three postseason contests for the Jets have been quite competitive, however, Reimer says he has nothing but confidence in his team.

"My boys have dug deep, practiced really hard and are really wanting this championship," Reimer explains. "I have no fear of them coming out sluggish tonight."

He notes the players have been looking for redemption all season.

"Everybody has their eye on the prize because, for a lot of these guys, it's their last year in minor hockey," Reimer explains. "They lost last year, and the year before that, they were in playoffs and doing well but it got cancelled. So, for a few of these guys, it's their last hurrah. They want to end up with a championship."

Reimer outlines how they plan to play in this final series.

"We're built for speed and we're very aggressive with the body," says Reimer. "We've got some big hitters out there and we normally can play a really hard and fast game. A lot of the teams that we've faced haven't liked it. If we can jump on them early, it usually knocks the life out of them pretty quickly."

Tonight's game one is set for 6:45 at the St. Norbert Arena.
