The Portage Collegiate Trojans soccer team is proud of the season it was. The squad fell 3-0 last night to the Shaftesbury Titans in the championship game but still left the field with their heads held high. Head coach Mike Robinson says the boys came a long way in the short season.

"I was really proud of this team. We only had six returning players from last year but these guys came together and played well as a team. We relied on our teamwork, perseverance, and hard work for most of the games this year," Robinson explains.

PCI only lost two games all season, both coming against Shaftesbury. Outside their matchups with the Titans, the Trojans went 4-0 and outscored their opponents 10-4. Robinson says they kicked off the season with a tournament and never looked back.

"We started off the year at a tournament in Kenora. We had some ups and downs there but we battled through it and learned, as a team, how to come back when we're behind in games," Robinson continues. "Throughout the season, for the most part, we were always in the lead. That was something a little different for us."

After back-to-back finals appearances, Robinson is looking forward to the future of the program.

"At least two-thirds of the team should be coming back next year. We will lose a good portion of our starters. The guys from this year that were not in Grade 12 will get an opportunity to take on a bigger role."

Robinson gives his team credit for battling for all 90 minutes in their championship game in spite of the loss.
