The Treherne Collegiate varsity boys volleyball team is kicking off the Provincial A Boys Volleyball Championships today in Elm Creek. The Treherne Tigers went undefeated at the provincial qualifier to secure their spot in this tournament.

The Tigers will be on the court today at 9 a.m. against the host school, which their head coach Darrel Van Den Bussche says will be a great way to get accustomed to the atmosphere right off the bat.

He outlines their team's strong suits.

"I'd say we're fairly well balanced. We don't have any superstars. We rely on all of the members on the court and actually use quite a few subs throughout a match," Van Den Bussche explains. "We have a lot of the kids participating, so it's hard for a team to focus on one offensive person that way."

Treherne may have an opportunity at redemption in Elm Creek as they lost to the Glenboro Panthers in their zone championship game, and while they're in different pools for the round-robin, they could potentially meet in the elimination rounds.

Van Den Bussche describes his expectations for the tournament.

"I'm not sure what to expect. We've had some sickness going through the school the last couple of weeks, and we have a couple of injuries now. So, a couple of the Grade 12 players are going to be sitting on the bench and watching. We're going to see what happens," Van Den Bussche continues. "A lot of people are thinking that this provincial A competition is going to be wide open. Nobody is sure who the strongest team is, so it'll be interesting to see what happens."

The Tigers will kick off the event this morning against the host school and will play the Wawanesa Warriors at 11 a.m.
