A Treherne farmer is among the province's Cattle Enhancement Council to determine how money from a new industry fund will increase slaughter capacity.

Harvey Harland fits the bill, believing there's a real need for the initiative, considering Manitoba only has one federally-inspected plant.

He's motivated by a changing agricultural industry, saying Manitoba is quickly becoming a meats and vegetable producing province.  Harland adds the price to ship cattle too, is on the rise, making the plan to increase slaughter capacity that much more appealing.

While several have acted against the new two-dollar levy on cattle, Harland has received more support for the collection.
