The cost of trailer fees in the RM of Portage la Prairie is changing for those not on the assessment roll. That's from Reeve Kam Blight who notes it's part of a continued transition from last year.

"This is just an addition to what we've done in the past year. In the past year we looked at doing assessment for trailers in the municipality of Portage la Prairie. We did have a trailer fee of $350 put in place. Some mobile homes would normally come in at a value higher than that on an assessment basis, and some would be at a lower value."

Blight says it's all about putting everyone on an equal level.

"So, we're just trying to provide an equal level playing field across the board for all properties, mobile homes, or homes, themselves. This issue that we just talked about this week just referred to the mobile homes that are in parks, such as Bowes, etc."

He notes the date's not been set for the changes, but plans have been chosen.

"We're going to be proceeding with a value-base formula, based upon square footage and years, etc., of the mobile homes to help us come up with a dollar amount to represent the value. Some homes may be paying a little bit more, and others will be paying less than the $350. Once again, it's just to try and provide some equality amongst all homes and properties out there."
