It appears a committee working to pave the running track in Arborg may not be done their fundraising work. Mayor Randy Sigurdson says while they were able to fundraise the amount outlined in the engineering phase, the contractors realized they needed to conduct a bit more work to ensure the project was done correctly. He says the base needed for the track was larger than initially planned, leading to the purchase of extra aggregate.

"The contractor basically did his job, it's just the numbers were higher than expected. It wasn't the cost of the work, it just there was more aggregate. They didn't up the price, it was just the volumes where higher than we thought."

He says the extra cost is several thousand dollars, and the municipality is now looking to recover the extra required money. Sigurdson notes they have already paid for the work, but the fundraising committee will likely need to work to do a bit more work.

"It hasn't been finalized yet, but I don't think there's any magic involved. The job is basically done, so we'll have to do a little more fundraising. There's a committee that's done a wonderful job getting this in place, it was just something they didn't expect."

Meanwhile Sigurdson notes the contractors will return to work in the summer, as they work to resurface the track. He says the contractor wasn't happy with the result of the patchwork, so will repave the area free of charge.
