The People Helping People Radiothon presented by Simplot in Support of Central Plains Cancer Services (CPCS) is now in the books. The final donations have been tallied and the local group couldn't be happier with the result.

Sharilyn Knox, Executive Director with CPCS, says that after raising over 77 thousand dollars, they are grateful for the region's support.

"We didn't know what to expect. It was the first time doing it, but we're just so pleased with how the Community and the region came together to support our programs and services."

Knox shares that no matter how big or small of a donation you gave, it truly makes a difference.

"From small donations of $5 to a couple of $1000 donations and then challenges that business is put out and our farmers put out it just. All added up to a successful two days."

The Executive Director says that they extend a huge thank you to everyone who contributed to the Radiothon, from the matching hourly sponsors, the volunteers who answered the phones and, of course, all of you who donated to such an important organization.

"I've had comments from my team of volunteers and my team of staff of what a great team there is here at the radio station and vice versa. It shows that when we put like minds together for a good cause, we can do fabulous things."

Donations came in from all across the area and many of the 70-plus communities CPCS showed up on the donor list. Many farms and corporations also made a pledge. There was even a vehicle provided by Portage Toyota and Rv. The driving change Corolla hit the streets to pick up several thousand dollars in donations.

Simplot was the presenting partner and gave $10,000 in the final moments of the two day event. The matching partners as well did all they could to boost the total.

While many businesses stepped up and gave what they could, these were the partners that stepped up in advance to make sure the event would be a success. It's places like these that are the reason why we often talk about shopping in your local area.
