Hockey players from across the world have gone home for the summer and Portage la Prairie has welcomed several local athletes home as well.

Logan, Kian and Evan Calder played hockey in very different locations this year, but the boys have reconvened at home this summer.

Logan, the oldest brother, plays for Salve Regine University, an NCAA Division III school in Rhode Island. Kian played his first season with the University of Manitoba Bison in USPORTS, and Evan spent the year in the Kootenay International Junior Hockey League with the Castlegar Rebels.

They all gave their thoughts on being able to hang out during the summer.

Logan: "It's been good. I try to watch as many of my brother's games as I can, but it's kind of hard with Evan playing on the West Coast, and I'm on the East Coast. So, his seven o'clock games are 11 or 11:30 p.m. my time. But I try to watch him and Kian as much as I can. I was excited to get back and spend some quality time with them. We don't spend much time together or see each other at all during the winter, so it's nice to spend this time with them."

Kian: "It's awesome. I mean, we don't get to see each other that often throughout the year, so when summer comes around, we do a lot of things. We hang out around the house, golf, and it's a lot of fun."

Evan: "Yeah, it's fun to spend time with them. Logan can teach me a couple new things to do at the gym and stuff, so that always helps with getting ready for the next year."

The boys each shared how this past season went in their eyes.

Logan: "We had a good season this year, we were strong, and we just fell short in the finals, losing 2-1 to the #1 team in our conference. We're getting ready for next year, and looking forward to it."

Kian: "The season was good. We didn't get a lot of the results we wanted win-wise, but I think the team took a big step in the right direction. Looking into next season, a lot of the guys are motivated, and the coaching staff has recruited some top-end players, so I think next year is going to be even better for us."

Evan: "We had a decent year, we started strong and then lost in the first round of playoffs, but we've signed some good guys, so we should be good for next year."

As for the summer plans, the boys all expressed plans to try to recover their bodies and build up to be in better shape for next season.
