In the MJHL, the offence came alive early last night for the Portage Terriers as they beat the OCN Blizzard 5-2. It was their second win in as many nights at the Gordon Lathlin Memorial Centre in Opaskwayak Cree Nation.

It took less than a minute for Portage to opening things up. Jared Roy fired a shot over Wesley Ellingson's blocker 18 seconds into the game for his first of the season. It didn't stop there: six minutes later it was Roy's linemate Ty Barnstable who found the back of the goal on the power play. A Darren Gisti point shot bounced off the end boards to the captain at the side of the net. Reilly Funk scored hist first goal similar to Roy's before the end of the period to give his team the 3-0 lead.

The second period started the same as the first. Logan Calder recorded his first goal in the MJHL on a goal mouth scramble. Barnstable notched his second of the night less than two minutes later. This spelled the end of the night for Ellingsen, who let in five goals on 23 shots. Logan Thiessen entered the game for the Blizzard and gave his team some life.

The Blizzard quickly got on the board a few minutes later. Portager Jaden Pashe scored his first of the season. Blizzard forward Michael Chapman scored a few minutes later to draw his team back within three. This is as close as they would get. Portage played sound defence the rest of the night and closed out the game. Nathan Moore stopped 21 shots picking up his second win of the season.

Portage now improves to 3-1 on the season and gets ready for a matchup with Winkler at Stride place on Wednesday. The Blizzard have an opportunity for revenge next weekend when they will play a double header in Portage on Oct. 5th and 6th.
