The Portage Terriers opened up the pre-season with a bang in a rookie match-up against the Virden Oil Capitals. The Terriers managed 7 goals against the Capitals and easily took the win, 7-2.

The Terriers had goals scored by Sheldon Howard (2), Jay Buchholz (2), Jason Kotchon, Kian Calder and Kolton Shindle. Shindle had a three-point game, tallying a pair of assists along with the Terriers final goal of the game. Virden had goals from Hunter Andrew and Colin Cook; both were unassisted.

The Terriers started slow but once they got their legs under them, they never slowed down and controlled the pace for most of the game.
