The Portage Terriers will hit the ice tonight when they head north to battle the Dauphin Kings on the road. The Dogs were not overly active at the deadline but they did make a splash in bringing back the second highest scorer from last year's team, former Terrier captain Chase Brakel. Portage also acquired defenseman Morgan Poirier from Waywayseecappo, sending fellow blueliner Jack Tonnies the other way. The Terriers have won their last eight outings, solidifying their grip on first place overall in league standings. They are now seven points ahead of second-place Swan Valley and will look to increase that margin against a Dauphin squad who is sitting right in the middle of the league in sixth place. The Kings come into the game having lost both games against Portage this season including a 4-3 matchup during the MJHL Showcase in Winnipeg last month.

Terrier forward Logan Calder spoke about what they need to do to pick up a win.

"We need a quick start," says Calder. "We always want to start fast and hard. We need to show them we're ready to play."

Tale of the Tape

Dauphin Kings 19-18-2-2

Portage sits with the best power play in the league at 28.1% and their penalty kill is ranked fifth at 83.1%. The Kings will bring in the seventh-ranked power play unit with an efficiency rating of 16.0%. Their penalty kill is eighth in the league, working at a clip of 79.5%.

Team Leaders
Terriers - Joey Moffat 17G 24A 41Pts.
Kings - Riley Shamray 9G 21A 30Pts.

Goaltenders
Terriers - Nathan Moore .887 save percentage and 2.59 GAA.
Kings - Bryan Landsberger .916 save percentage and 2.53 GAA.

With the addition of Brakel, the Terriers are deep at the centre position and his addition will only help a team that has scored a league-leading 192 goals so far. The Terriers will be looking for their ninth win in a row and assuming they come out with a strong opening effort they should pick it up. The moves Portage made at the deadline show they are pushing for this year without forsaking their future.

Puck drop is set for 7:30 pm.
