The Portage Terriers made it seven in a row tonight as they took down the Winkler Flyers for the second straight game, by a score of 5-2.

The first period started extremely physical and saw very few scoring chances, however, with five minutes left in the frame the Terriers looked to strike first. Mack Belinski brought the puck up along the boards and into the offensive zone on the rush, he fought off a defender before making the centring pass but it was just out of the reach of Austen Flaman.

Around a minute later, Jaden McCarthy carried the puck down the wing as he entered the zone and dropped it behind him near the blue line. Garrett Szeremley scooped the puck up and put it on net, it was tipped on its way by Kyle Lamoureux and it went in between the pads of Noah Giesbrecht.

With two minutes to go in the period, Koby Morrisseau had the puck behind the net and skated along the boards with it before cutting toward the slot and ripping a shot past the goalie. This would tie the game heading into the first break.

Five minutes into the second, McCarthy threw the puck on net from the sideboards and Jaden Townsend was able to chip it in as he cut down the lane giving the Flyers back the lead.

With a little under five minutes to go in the frame, as the Terriers were on the power-play, Caelan McPhee received the puck in the slot. He made the short pass to Morrisseau beside him who quickly found Flaman back door and he tapped in his first goal as a Terrier.

About a minute and a half later, Carter Barley had the puck in a 2-on-1 chance. He dished it off to Kolton Shindle who sniped a one-timer past goaltender Dorrin Lunding giving the Terriers their first lead of the game.

The third period began with the dogs having just under three minutes of power-play time as the Flyers took a four-minute penalty late in the second. Just 40 seconds into the third, Portage would capitalize as Austin Clyne took a shot from the point that was stopped but Flaman picked up the rebound and put it top shelf. 4-2 Terriers.

Halfway through the third, Flaman had a good look in the slot but was denied, however, Morrisseau was there for the rebound but Lunding somehow got his stick out to make the save.

Just over a minute left to play, as the dogs were on the power-play, Belinski fed Flaman down low who immediately dished the puck across to Morrisseau and he tapped the puck in the open cage. This brought us to our final score of 5-2.

Forward Austen Flaman explains the biggest factors in the win.

"Keeping the feet moving," says Flaman. "We're getting a lot more physical these last few games, that gets everybody into the game a lot more and keeps everybody going, line by line. We just have to keep rolling, it's a good streak."

Flaman also describes how big it was for them to beat this team twice in a row.

"It's huge. Standings wise, it's massive for sure," says Flaman. "Also to send a message like especially because it was back-to-back (wins) it's more of a message game than anything, especially going into the playoffs right away."

The Terriers will be back on the ice tomorrow as they head to Virden to take on the Oil Capitals. The dogs have already beat Virden twice during their winning streak and will be looking to extend that to eight straight games. Puck drop for tomorrow's game is set for 7:30.
