The Portage Terriers announced this week that the club has acquired 19-year-old forward Mattie Boonstra from the Dauphin Kings in exchange for future considerations.

Terrier head coach and GM Blake Spiller says he is excited for what the Garson, Ont., product will be able to do in a Terrier jersey.

“He has very good skills," says Spiller. "This will be a good opportunity for him to come in and be an important player for us.”

Boonstra played most of last season with the Transcona Railer Express (MMJHL) where he posted 18 points in 39 games. The 19-year-old winger has shown flashes of offense - in his final season in the MAAA U18 league he notched 63 points in 46 games for the Eastman Selects.

Boonstra was drafted 72nd overall by the Medicine Hat Tigers in the WHL bantam draft in 2016 and 32nd overall by the Steinbach Pistons in the MJHL draft.
