**FINAL UPDATE**

It was a long wait, but the Trans Canada Canada Highway between Portage and Brandon's been reopened.

A series of traffic mishaps this morning caused the closure. Several semi-trailers were involved, including one that was rear-ended by another semi. Two people from one of those semis were taken to hospital. The extent of injuries isn't known.

Portage firefighters were on the scene as well, and a spokesperson tells us there were black ice conditions on the highway.

**UPDATED**

Portage Firefighters were called out early this morning to help deal with a series of traffic mishaps on the Trans Canada Highway west of Portage.

A Portage Fire Department spokesperson says many involved semi-trailers.

In the area where Portage firefighters were working, one semi rear-ended another. Two people from one of the semis were taken to hospital. The extent of their injuries isn't known.

We don't know how many vehicles and incidents are involved, but there are reports they're westbound and eastbound.

We'll update you as soon as we know more.

*Original story*

The Trans Canada Highway from Portage to just west of Brandon has been closed.

We're told driving conditions are poor.

Conditions along Highway 16 are less than ideal as well, with surfaces snow covered or partly snow covered from the Highway 1 junction to the Highway 352 intersection. Beyond that point, there's no updated information.

We've also heard from someone around St. Ambroise that conditions are icy.

Caution behind the wheel's recommended today.
