Successful 2017 For Portage Mutual

The Portage Mutual Insurance Company held it 134th annual general meeting in Portage la Prairie this morning.

Members heard 2017 was a successful year for the firm.

President and CEO John Mitchell outlines what happened.

"We had another underwriting profit," he says, "The third one in a row. We have transformed a lot of our business, and it's reflective in our results."

Mitchell says there's an air of confidence now.

"It's a very challenging industry," he says, "Our margins are very small. But the one thing that we have is really strong support from our brokers, and fabulous support from our employees. And so I think that's absolutely one of our strengths. And we're focused on the consumer -- always have been."
