Trials are underway after  a recent study revealed a possible key to slowing the spread of HIV in Africa.

It found lower rates of the disease in African countries with higher circumcision rates.

Dr. Denis Fortier of the Central Regional Health Authority believes there's enough promise in the preliminary findings to dig deeper, considering it showed a 60 per cent reduction.

If proven there's a link between the two, he approves mass circumcision in Africa.  However with HIV rates in Canada substantially lower than that of Africa, Fortier finds no cause for action.

Especially since the Pediatric Society finds no medical reason to engage in circumcision.
