A delegation from the Starbuck Arena recently presented to the RM of Cartier.

Reeve Dale Fossay says several residents in the area use the facility, and it needs help with financing its ice plant upgrades.

"We received a delegation from the Starbuck recreation complex. Some of Cartier would fall in their catchment area for the use of their curling rink, hockey rink. And historically Cartier has helped finance some of the structure there. They're just in the initial stages of doing it again. The ice plant needs an upgrade. So, it's just an initial contact to give Cartier's initial feelings about once again helping out financially."

He explains there's a history of support with certain areas of the RM.

"People from what we would call the Dakota, or Elm Bank, or Springstein area are very close to the town of Starbuck. Historically there's been a connection and support. I guess they're looking at that continuing into the future. We thanked them for coming, and they're going to provide more detailed information on what the actual financial request would be. We certainly encouraged them to continue looking into it. "

Fossay adds council will make no decision until consulting with the public.

"Before council can make their final decision there'll be a public hearing involved. We're always cautioned to not commit until we hear from the ratepayers in the area."
