Last night in the MJHL, Swan Valley Stampeders took a 3-2 lead into the third period versus Portage Terriers at Stride Place, and hung on for a 5-4 victory.

After a scoreless first period, The Stamps scored a pair of goals in the second, before Ty Enns got the Dogs on the board, at 11:45. Swan Valley replied just over four minutes later, and Jeremey Leipsic narrowed the margin to 3-2, with four seconds left in the period.

In the third period, Leipsic potted his second of the night, a minute and 19 in, to tie it. However, Swan Valley responded with two goals. Ty Enns got his second goal for Portage at 19:10, but that was a close as they came.

Chase Brakel recorded a pair of assists. Lasse Petersen was in goal, stopping 30 of 35 shots. Portage outshot Swan Valley 40-35.

Terriers' coach and GM Blake Spiller says the Stampeders seemed more ready to play, even though it was their third game in three nights.

"Lots of times, people say that's the tough one," he says, "But my experience is the third game in three nights, teams are a lot more loose, and they just come and play, and I thought was what they did, so full credit to them. I thought we needed a few guys to be a little bit better tonight, and we would have been okay."

Terriers' forward Jeremey Leipsic analyzes what happened.

"I thought our start was okay," he says, "And then a couple of tough breaks, a couple calls didn't go our way, but at the end of the day, we have to do better defensively. That's what it comes down to most times."

Ryan Sokoloski feels the Terriers put forth a mixed effort.

"We came out flying, then we got down two," he says, "It was good that we came back, but then again, just turnovers, and just thinking these guys are lower in the standings, and we can just trample over them, but that's not the case."

The Terriers now prepare to face the Blues in Winnipeg on Wednesday night.

Elsewhere, Neepawa downed OCN 6-3.
