The Portage Terriers lost their first game of the season Sunday night, 5-2 to the Waywayseecappo Wolverines. Special teams were a big factor for Waywayseecappo who went 3/7 on the power play. Offense was hard to come by for Portage who got outshot 41-29 and were 0/9 with the man advantage. The team will now get set for a home game against Winkler on Wednesday. Puck drop is set for 7:30 at Stride Place. 

Jennifer Jones and Reid Carruthers won the inaugural PointsBet Invitational in Fredericton. Jones, Karlee Burgess, Mackenzie Zacharias, Lauren Lenentine and alternate Emily Zacharias defeated Team Casey Scheidegger of Lethbridge skipped by Kristie Moore 7-4 in the women's final. Carruthers along with third Jason Gunnlaugson, second Derek Samagalski and lead Connor Njegovan downed Matt Dunstone 8-4 in the men's final. Team Jones and Team Carruthers each pocketed $26,000 for the win and $50,000 total in the single knockout event.


The Winnipeg Jets lost their pre-season opener. Stuart Skinner and Calvin Pickard combined to make 29 saves as the Edmonton Oilers shutout Winnipeg 4-0 at Rogers Place. Markus Niemelainen. James Hamblin, Ryan McLeod and Dylan Holloway did the goal scoring for the Oilers. Jets goaltender David Rittich made 22 saves. Winnipeg will play it's second of six exhibition games Tuesday night against the Ottawa Senators at Canada Life Centre.

The Portage Collegiate Trojans kick off the AAAA WWAC Tier 2 volleyball season today. The Trojans travel to Winnipeg after school to face the Shaftsbury Titans.

The Trojans golf team competed in provincials at Carman last Friday. The squad finished 7th out of the 15 teams involved.


The Winnipeg Blue Bombers signed American defensive end Bronson Massie to the practice roster.The Lufkin, Texas native joins the Blue Bombers following a five-year college career with the Kansas State Wildcats. The standout defensive end played in 53 games and capped off his college career with three sacks in the Texas Bowl against LSU. As a member of the Wildcats, Massie totaled 53 tackles, 7.5 tackles for loss, 3.5 sacks, and 3 passes defended.
