Previous Story:

Big Brothers Big Sisters of Central Plains held its annual Duck Race fundraiser on Canada Day, when the weather opened up somewhat to allow for it Monday afternoon. Executive Director Dawn Froese says they sold 1,439 Ducks and that's how many were swimming last night.

"We had a good turnout of people coming to watch and the kids are helping us clean up the ducks, which is exciting," says Froese. "We were selling tickets; one for $5 or three for $10. All the tickets have a corresponding duck and we let them down the water slide and then they go down the Lazy River. The first three through win and they win some great prizes this year."

She adds first prize is $1,000, and the winners will be called on Wednesday to inform them of their good fortune.

"We're just very excited and thankful for the community for supporting us and buying tickets. Even if they can't buy tickets, we thank them for stopping and talking to us."

Mentoring Coordinator Laura Spelliscy says "First place duck is number 1,245. Second place was 622, and third place was 409."
