This nomination is dedicated to this family and individual who were very supportive " awesome" after my husbands sledding accident resulting in fracturing his lower back. They were supportive in many ways including; coming to the hospital for family support, looking after med runs and checking in on the kids/pets at home, checking the good old boiler at the farm when it was -37 wind chill, and therapy after the accident. I would like to send out love and appreciation to my snow angel's who helped my family thought this difficult time.

After a snowfall I was struggling to find someone to clear a parking space for new tenants who were arriving shortly to move in. When I arrived at the building I found out Tony BRYSON had been kind enough to clear all the snow away. He saved the day without even having been asked. Thank you Tony for your kindness and generosity.

Rachel Boulet just packed herself and her dog today and flew out to New Brunswick to go take care of our aunt for a month! Our aunt is having surgery on Monday and lives alone so my sister is out there to not only make sure she takes it easy and relaxes to heal properly but also to take care of all the household duties and her dog! She is such a special person and I am so glad to call her my one and only sister!

Last year my husband was in BC and i could not operate the snow blower or even shovel. My brother Vincent came every single time i needed him too without ever asking anything of me. He did it for free to help me out as i couldn't afford to pay him. He never once complained. This year he is doing the same. He definitely deserves to be a snow angel.

I am nominating Adrienne Lasson. I think she would be awesome as she has so much to do. She never does nothing for her self always helping other people, by either driving people around who are not capable to or cant from cleaning peoples places at Oak Tree towers, and other places even does grocery shopping for people who cant do it period. She works 12 hour shifts at McCain's, but also helps with grand kids. She just needs some "me time".  Thanks for  being you Adrienne.

My snow angel is Shelley Motyer (my mom).  She is always helping me around the house when I am at work, she has supper ready to go for when I get home. She is always cleaning house which is really helpful for me as I have a family of 6 and both my husband and I are working. So I think my mom deserves to win the snow angel contest. Good luck mom!

After the recent snowfall our lane was covered with drifts and we were constantly getting stuck. Didn't matter if it was a little car or a full sized truck trying to get in, everyone was getting stuck! Therefore one afternoon our neighbor Mr Warren Steppen out of the kindness of his heart came and cleared out our lane with his tractor. Country living isn't as easy as people think but with great neighbors like Warren Steppen all you can be is thankful they're around to give a helping hand!

Our neighbors, Richard and Angie Trimble deserve to be recognized as Snow Angels for their years of "Neighborly Good Deeds."  I can't count how many times I've arrived home to a cleared driveway thanks to Richard or how many times Angie has delivered some freshly baked goodies to my husband at the shop.  They never hesitate to lend a hand when we are in need whether it's to pull us out of the mud or look at one of our horses.  We are blessed and thankful to have friends and neighbors like them and their boys. Thank you Country 93 for such a great opportunity for the citizen of Portage to recognize our hometown heros.

The snow angel I am nominating is my Dad, Randy Denagte. During his retirement my dad started running a small business called Men in Plaid. For his business, he goes around and does odd jobs for individuals with small projects that they can't always manage by themselves; fixing fences, installing flooring, minor building projects, painting, almost any odd job you can think of.

However, my dad is more than just a paid handyman. He is a volunteer handyman for the people who need it most. He has received many a call from the elderly for things sometimes as simple as changing a light bulb, things they can no longer manage themselves but are nonetheless important. He goes out with his tool box at the ready and helps them without any expectations, free of charge. Not only that, but he is a listening ear for the many stories his clients have to share, taking time out of his day and dedicating it to those in need.  A handyman, a listener, a teacher, a helping hand and above all, my Dad-- the snow angel.

I would like to nominate my husband Ron. He is a very kindhearted, thoughtful person who is always helping others, without every expecting anything in return. He has helped numerous strangers get unstuck in blizzards and anytime he gets out the snow blower to do our driveway, he thinks nothing of doing the neighbors as well.Last snowfall he did 4 different neighbors driveways without them even knowing it. He serves to have some recognition for all the thoughtful ways he helps others!

Gilbert Dondo looks out for the neighbourhood after every snowfall and cleans our driveways!  He doesn't ask for anything, just a really nice guy who's always there for everyone if they need help with something.

Submitted By: Michele Lavallee *WINNER*

My brother Bill is a snow angel.  My daughter and I live alone and everytime it snow's he show's up and cleans our entire yard without asking and refusing to be paid.  If he didn't do this there are many times we would be stuck in our yard.  In our eyes this definitely makes him a snow angel.

I would like to nominate Clive Morgan. He is not only our neighbour but also an ambassador for the PCU Centre. You probably have seen him around Portage on his scooter. He attends all the events going on at the PCU centre and is a big Terrier fan. Every garbage day Clive brings up our cans to the front of the garage so they can’t blow away. He help my husband when he built the deck, he is always there to lend a hand to anyone. My husband always says “he is the best hired man, he never hired”

My snow angel is Rhonda Hannah.  She is so kind and considerate.  She is always willing to help someone.  Her life can be completely crazy between work and home yet she still makes time to help out even when she is having a hard time walking!   She’s always cheerful and thoughtful.  She always puts her family first!

Roger Verwey is an amazing person. He came to our house Christmas Eve to clean all the snow from our yard. Without him doing that we wouldn’t have been able to have our family over on Christmas.

Ed Thurston, Ray Moar and Joseph Hourie have been working hard to clear the skating rink at Prosvita Park.  They don't get paid for this and it's completely on a volunteer basis. I know plenty of families and kids who like to skate on it so I'm glad they take pride and keep it clean for everyone!

Submitted By: Pam Wall *Winner Wednesday Feb. 3*

I would like to nominate my husband Alan Wall for snow angel. He clears the snow for the whole block every time there's a snowfall including driveways and sidewalks. He volunteers with the UCT group and is at every Terrier home game volunteering in the penalty box as well as taking tickets. He most defiantly goes out of his way to help anyone he can.

Our Snow Angel is Lyndon McNally. I had a leak in my bathroom from a build up of snow and ice on my roof. Lyn heard about it and came to take a look. Then he found help. Tyler Ford as well as Lyn came and shoveled off all the snow and chipped off the ice. I'm hoping with the warmer weather that I won't have anymore leaks until I get my roof fixed.
Thanks to both Lyn and Tyler.

I would like to nominate Betty Bedford as a snow angel. Betty is always taking shut ins out for grocery shopping or   just for tea.  Amazingly she always  seems to know when you need “a cheer me up” telephone call. Betty is a truly   great friend to many.

I would like to nominate my son Nick as a Snow Angel. My parents recently moved into a retirement home in Portage and he helps them out as often as he can with Dr appointment and shopping and never asks for anything.

Submitted By: Haylie Webber

I want to nominate my dad, Jason Webber. I recently bought a house and he has helped out and supported me the whole time, even taking the day off to help me drive way out to Melita to pick up some furniture I needed. Anything I need help with I don't even have to ask as he's already doing it or offering. The day I moved he went out to make sure the snow was shoveled, and while i was unpacking he was going around the house and fixing all the little things for me, such as the broken light switch and hanging some things up. I want to thank him for the help he's given me.

I would like to nominate Rhonda Palmer as my Snow Angel. We have two dogs at home. A black lab named Koda and a yellow named Zoey. Every once in a while I'll get a surprise text from Rhonda in the afternoon saying she's going to take the dogs for a walk or a snow shoe. They love it and I appreciate it more than she can know as I've been working some long hours and winter can be long for them. Koda, Zoey and I all think she deserves a Snow Angel title!

Our nomination goes out to the Fawcett’s men; Abbie & Frankie.
In the time of need or for just being there to give a lending hand in anything that needs to be done, and it doesn’t matter what time of day it is (even in the middle of the night); they are there to help with their many talents. They have helped us many times over the years, and they continue to keep giving.

· They make it possible for us to get away from our farm on our winter holidays by babysitting our dog,-Ace, taking care of our livestock, and our home.

· We have come home very late (in the night) from our holiday to a clean drive way, when our area just have received 3 feet of snow fall. We would have been stuck in the snow without their consideration for us.

· Just a call away, they have come to rescue us with our broken vehicle, or pulling us out of a snow bank or they have helped us to ensure that our horses and trailer have got back to our farm safety.

· When our outside plumbing froze twice in the -40 weather, they were there helping to get it thawed out on Christmas Eve and during the New Year’s holiday.

· They are always helping with the care of our animals; from taking our dog Ace for walks, or helping with the horses like hauling hay in on the coldest day of the year or feeding them.

We are VERY appreciated to have these fellows in our lives, and we are VERY grateful for all that they do for us!

Our Snow Angel is our next door neighbour, Gary Hunt. I have lived beside him for almost 10 years now and every winter, he is removing the snow from every driveway and sidewalk in the neighbourhood. In the summer, he mows our lawn while we are at work! Gary has been the best neighbour I've known in my lifetime. He truly cares for our community and the people in Portage la Prairie!

Our snow angels are Laura McGowan and Nick Lavallee. One Christmas a couple years ago, due to a series of events, I found myself preparing for Christmas with $0 and three expectant children. Laura and Nick pulled together a pile of gifts for the children. This is just one example of how they have helped us out. Laura has been a listening ear and has randomly dropped off vegetables in the summer. Laura and Nick have always helped when they are able, and I have always felt I could never show enough of my appreciation for their friendship.

Our snow angel is Brad Rodgers. Brad and his wife Charmaine have been amazing neighbours in the short time we have lived near them so far. Brad cleared snow in our farm yard for us & helped feed bales to our cattle when our tractor broke down around Christmas. He has also helped us by calling me to let me know we had a cow calving out in the snow. My husband & I both work off-farm jobs and can’t always be home so we are grateful to have amazing neighbours, such as the Rodgers.

Allan and Erin Stoughton have been our "angels" for many, many years. These folks have offered to paint our living room, helped with whipping snipping our lawn, helped us with carpentry work and with a forthcoming apartment move and moving furniture. We are never without their help.

Our Snow Angel is Bob Parsons. Bob is my 83 year old Mother's neighbor. All winter Bob cleans Mom's driveway and sidewalk. In summer he is there to trim hedges any any other way he can help her. Bob helps enable my Mother to remain in her own home. He is truly a Snow Angel all year long!

I am nominating Alana McAuley as Oakland Recreation Club's snow angel. She is always at the rink volunteering her time for the community. Even though her son is too old for one of our hockey teams she is still on the ice every Tuesday and Thursday skating with 20 community kids aged 9-14. She is a very busy working mom and wife yet she still comes out faithfully and laces up her skates. If it was not for her, our kids would not have a coach. We had our annual curling bonspiel and I am not sure if she left the rink as she was always there working hard in the canteen and helping organize our volunteers. We wondered if she slept there:) Thank you Alana, you are appreciated.

Yesterday, I got stuck in a snow bank with my car going to the Portage Clinic for an appointment. I tried and tried different things, but could not budge the car. Now out of breath & tired, I decied to walk to the clinic looking for someone to help me. (Car was hung up close by the clinic.) Since it was lunch hour the receptionist said there was no one around. I noticed a fellow leaving the drugstore in the clinic and I called out to him and asked him if he could please help me. He drove his truck to where my car was, and got me out. Definitely, Totally, a SNOW ANGEL. I did not know the fellow, but I asked him for his name, Gary Taylor. When I asked, I thought I have to nominate him as a Snow Angel. Thanks Gary!
